Get Gifted . . .

Dear Friend,

There are over one hundred non-Equity companies operating in Chicago at any given time. What sets a theatre company apart, I believe, is the caliber of work, the selection of material, and building meaningful relationships with the audience.

A non-for-profit theatre company, The Gift's largest source of revenue is ticket sales, followed by independent donations. I cannot stress enough how every donation, no matter how seemingly small, does make a difference.

Here are some of the current goals we are working on:

  • The construction of a home space; in which to begin "giftED." - our educational program consisting of workshops and classes for teens and adults - and to rehearse and produce upcoming productions of The Gift Theatre Company.

  • Beginning the process of paying our ensemble.

  • The production of a feature-length film adaptation of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull.

  • The generation and production of The Nightmare, a 'theatrical event' featuring actors and non-actors exploring themes of life, death, childhood, and disability.

  • Organizing "Chicago's Gifted II," a night of short scenes between ensemble members of The Gift and local Chicago theatre luminaries, directed by the most exciting visionaries in town!

  • An intensive collaboration between The Gift Theatre Company and The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago for the purposes of combating pediatric oral aversion with a combination of speech therapy and interactive theatre. Rooted in fears that stem from having been intubated at an early age, oral aversion prevents children from eating, drinking, brushing their teeth - any activity that involves contact with the face and mouth and is the leading affliction among pediatric patients at RIC.

As you can see, we have much work to be done! Your tax deductible "gift to The Gift" will bring us one step closer towards achieving these goals.

Yours,

Michael Patrick Thornton
